Most Inspirational Friends for 2011 Neil & Lisa Turnberg
Friends of Olympic National Park's Board of Directors announce their "Most Inspirational Friend" Award for 2011 to Neil and Lisa Turnberg of Sequim. The presentation will be made on Thursday, March 24 at 7 pm at the Olympic National Park Visitors' Center .
This award is presented in recognition of their prolific volunteer work for Olympic National Park. They have devoted hundreds of hours in 2010 as Friend's most active volunteers in construction projects at the Matt Albright Native Plant Nursery at Robin Hill Farm County Park.
They alone were completely responsible for these accomplishments: - construction of 200 feet of storage bins & work benches - construction of two 8 foot pot storage bins - trenching & laying 250 feet of electrical power conduit - painting the storage building - improvements to the office deck - construction of a pot washing work bench.
They were also major contributors to: - construction of the 16x18 foot soil bin - laying 200 feet of irrigation pipe and installing 30 sprinklers - construction of the 8x24 foot potting shelter - construction of one 30x50 foot cold frame - construction of the 40x60 foot shade structure
David Allen, manager of the plant nursery, says "The facilities built by Neil and Lisa greatly assist dozens of volunteers and Park staff working on the replanting efforts to restore the Elwha valley after the dams are removed. Plus they're both a joy to work with!"
Neil and Lisa are also active Park hikers and trail work volunteers with the Gray Wolf Trail Crew and Washington Trails Association, and helped clear the Gray Wolf, Dungeness, Gold Creek, and Little River Trails. They live along the Dungeness River near Sequim.
