THANKS Friends of Olympic National Park volunteers for getting a full week's work done in one fun day!
Present were:
Connie and Larry McClellan of Montesano,
David Bushatz, Hans Flockoi and Jim Hoare of Port Angeles,
Steve Gilchrist, Larry Gonzales, Rik Scairpon and Rod Farlee of Sequim.
From the dorms at Olympic Park Institute:
48 built-in bunkbeds were unbolted from the walls, completely disassembled, and the hardware and lumber recycled for future Park projects.
16 stand-alone bunkbeds were delivered to Serenity Shop for resale, to support the Serenity House for the homeless in Port Angeles.
Walls in 24 rooms were spaked.
Special thanks to Connie and Larry McClellan for coming all the way from Montesano, and staying 3 days to complete the sanding and painting of the dorm room walls! And thanks to Olympic NP Chief Ranger Colin Smith for his cooperation in making this possible.
It's a pleasure and a real privilege to work with such an enthusiastic group of volunteers. Our staff at OPI will be able to accomplish much more this winter because of all of your efforts. You are all part of what makes Our Park a great place.
~~ Al Watkins, Facilities Director, Olympic Park Institute November 15, 2010
Each year, OPI provides environmental education and outdoor experiences in our Park to over 6000 students, teachers and families. To join in future volunteer projects on its beautiful, historic campus at Barnes Point on Lake Crescent, e-mail Rod Farlee, Volunteer Coordinator, FONP.
